Conventional wisdom holds that the mountain of rock stardom can only be ruled by one guitar thunder lord. Well, prepare to have your conventional wisdom melted off your face as two such lords, Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck, are coming together for a one-night engagement.
Per U.K.’s Uncut Magazine, we’ve learned the man behind Blow by Blow and the man responsible for the heart melting song “Layla” will appear at London’s O2 Arena TOGETHER on February 13, 2010. The two men had a warm-up of sorts earlier this year in Japan and that show was the catalyst for just their second concert together despite a long history together. Of course, said history includes stints in The Yardbirds, where Beck replaced Clapton as lead guitarist back in ’65.
“Eric and I played together in Japan earlier this year and had a blast,” Beck said. “Since then we have been in regular contact and talked about doing a similar show for our fans”.
But before then, Clapton will perform at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s 25th anniversary concert on October 30th. His date, the second day of the all-star rock gathering, will coincide with the induction of Van Morrison, U2 and, you guessed it, Jeff Beck. The O2 concert will feature two best of sets followed by a combined culmination of rock goodness.
Tickets for Beck + Clapton go on sale September 28th.
