Lily Allen calls it quits

Lily Allen‘s career as a musician has reportedly come to an end.

In a recently posted statement on her anti-piracy blog (via NME), the 24-year-old musician has confirmed she does not plan to release another album and will not be renewing her record contract.

“Just so you know, I have not renegotiated my record contract and have no plans to make another record,” Allen wrote. “I do however remain a fan of new music, so this is not some selfish crusade.”

She continued, “The days of me making money from recording music have been and gone as far as I’m concerned, so I don’t (at this point) stand to profit from legislation [from the government regarding file-sharing]. Except future purchases of previously recorded material (which won’t be much).”

Of course, given the content of the quotes and the fact it was posted on her recently launched, now deceased anti-piracy blog (Allen shut it down shortly after posting the statement because, as she wrote on Twitter, “The abuse was getting too much.”), Allen’s “retirement” could just be the latest move in her fight against music piracy.

What’s more, Allen’s spokesperson has said (via NME) that Allen will continue touring into the winter and has no plans to completely step away from music. “She is not quitting pop music,” he said. “She is not thinking about her next album right now because she is still in the middle of promoting her current record.”

In other words, it’s time to play the always fun game of wait and see.
