Regina Spektor goes Broadway

As we’ve said on numerous occasions, and as evident by the name of this very website, Regina Spektor can really do no wrong in our book. We’re 110% confident in this assumption because of reasons like the following:

Just months after the release of her latest full-length, Far, the singer/songwriter has moved on to her next venture. According to Playbill (via TwentyFourBit), Spektor has been tapped to write music for an upcoming Broadway production called Beauty. For the one-act musical, which is apparently a somewhat updated version of Sleeping Beauty, she’ll be teaming up with Grey Gardens lyricist Michael Korie.

“Regina’s kind of fresh voice is elusive. There are plenty of theater composers, but we wanted a pop rock flavor — though it’s really hard to call Regina that,” said Stuart Oken, one of the show’s producers, in an interview with the Los Angeles Times.

Producers hope bring the musical to Broadway sometime before 2012. They are also planning a tryout run at a major regional theater, most likely in 2011.

While we’re waiting for that, you can always check out Spektor on any of her upcoming tour dates and/or when she serves as Saturday Night Live‘s musical guest on October 10th.
