Given all the madness, aka new releases, aka The BQE and Run Rabbit Run, that will be offered in the weeks ahead, it’s easy to forget that Sufjan Stevens hasn’t shelled out to a new album of original material since 2005’s Illinois. However, if you put much stock into what the acclaimed singer/songwriter has been performing during his currently ongoing North American tour, that could very well soon change.
In the last week alone, three pretty decent videos which show Stevens performing what are believed to be new songs have hit the web. Experimentation is the theme of the day, with any and every style appearing to have been incorporated. Look no further than to “Theres Too Much Love”, a funky, guitar and trumpet solo featuring seven minute-plus masterpiece of epic proportions that somehow also manages to be catchy enough to totally be a single.
Now, with all that in mind, check out said epic masterpiece/single, as well as songs titled “Impossible Souls” and “Age of Adz”, live from Ithaca, NY, below.
