Coyotes kill folk singer Taylor Mitchell

Taylor Mitchell, a 19-year-old Canadian folk singer who released her debut album, For Your Consideration, earlier this year, died on Wednesday (Oct. 28) following a coyote attack.

According to The Guardian, the musician was hiking alone in Cape Breton Highlands national park in Nova Scotia on Tuesday when the attack happened. Officers in the area reached the scene quickly and shot one of the animals, but Mitchell had suffered multiple bite wounds, the emergency health services said. She was airlifted to a Halifax hospital in a critical condition and died the following day.

“Words can’t begin to express the sadness and tragedy of losing such a sweet, compassionate, vibrant, and phenomenally talented young woman,” Lisa Weitz, Mitchell’s manager, said in a statement (via Spinner). “She just turned 19 two months ago, and was so excited about the future.”

Mitchell had been on a tour of eastern Canada when the attack occurred.
