In the late ’90s, the women of pop music attempted to seize the reigns and make their own rules with Lilith Fair, Ultimately, the Sarah McLachlan founded event proved to be the highest grossing all-female traveling tour ever before losing momentum and ending just two years later in 1999. But now, a decade later, the female furies have risen from the ashes and are ready to bring it all back come 2010.

The recently unveiled first batch of Lilth Fair 2010 sports 18 cities, including New York, Philadelphia, Boston, Los Angeles, Toronto, and Montreal. Other details of the tour, which previously featured Natalie Merchant, The Pretenders, Missy Elliott and more, are pretty sparse for now, but CEO Terry McBride said that the upcoming weeks would be filled with actual dates and a talent listing.

During the tour’s original lifespan, over $10 million was raised for various women’s charities. While the concept had been highly successful, McLachlan said the tour had a few simple flaws it hadn’t been able to foresee (via Spinner.com).

“I guess I was rather unprepared for the media onslaught and the sort of excitement that ensued from Lilith,” McLachlan said. “I had very simple goals. I wanted to put on a great musical show, and showcase all the amazing women that were coming up in music and not being represented in any other summer festivals. And certainly to have guys say, ‘Oh, this isn’t gonna work, putting 200 women on one bill,’ fueled it, as well.”

We’ll pass along more details as they come down. Until then, check out the recently revamped lilithfair.com for any details we missed.
