A treat with a pop beat trick in the mix, “Lotion” by the Greenskeepers is a Halloween homage fit to fictitious serial killer Buffalo Bill.
In 1991, The Silence of the Lambs delivered the “I’d fuck me” scene to the world, and won the hearts of the Academy, winning Best Picture, Best Actress (Jodie Foster as Clarice Starling), Best Actor (Anthony Hopkins as Dr. Hannibal Lecter), Best Director (Jonathan Demme), and Best Screenplay. The Silence of the Lambs is only the third film to win the five most prestigious Academy Awards. However, one more award should have been handed over to the masterpiece — Best Supporting Actor (Ted Lavine as Jame “Buffalo Bill” Gumb).
Chicago rock band, the Greenskeepers would agree with this sentiment, as evident in “Lotion”. As James Curd, Nick Maurer, Coban Rudish, and Mark Share place Buffalo Bill’s most famous dialogue over a pop beat one almost forgets the lyrics are promoting a psychotic serial killer who pleasured himself by wearing his victims’ skin.
“It rubs the lotion on its skin, or else it gets the hose again.”
While the dance inducing beat continues the lyrics become more enjoyably distributing. “The look inside your eyes drives me from control/Evoking visions of my favorite casserole/And if I eat your heart/I’ll also bite your soul/And when I’m done with that/I’ll use your skull as a bowl.”
This is a must listen for anyone who appreciates a strong beat throughout a song and the dark genius of a serial killer. The one liners alone make it worth the while.
“I think I’ll make myself a cap from your right buttock’s cheek.”
