In the latest example of Stephen Colbert’s flexing his mad musical muscle, last night’s edition (Oct. 6) of The Colbert Report featured none other than the John Darnielle- led The Mountain Goats. As was the case for the Flaming Lips a few weeks earlier, the appearance saw both an interview — highlighted by Colbert referring to Darnielle as “arty, liberal type” — and a musical performance — The Goats shared one songs off their newly released 17th studio album, The Life of the World to Come.), a full band rendition of the album’s first single, “Genesis 3:23”. and a solo piano performance of the subdued and solemn closer, “Ezekiel 7 and the Permanent Efficacy Of Grace”.
Colbert bump? Duh.
In equally awesome news, Colbert is streaming the Goats’ new album for 24 hours at colbertnation.com.
