We told you a while ago about Blakroc, the hip-hop collaboration album between The Black Keys and a horde of hip-hop heavyweights, including Mos Def, RZA, Ludacris and Q-Tip. Now some more of that goodness is surfacing (courtesy of Prefix Magazine, of course) and it has us excited. Especially since Raekwon, who is also doing a killer collabo with with some of his Wu brethren, is the MC behind the mic.
The track “Stay Off the Fucking Flowers” is an interesting combination, which surely is the point of a group like The Black Keys making a hip-hop record. The beat is something like an antique jazz song played in hyperdrive with a sullen guitar taking the place of some squeaky trumpets. And in proof of his often understated skills, Rae spits it big time with a speed and dominance most others would kill for. If this is further proof of what to expect, we’ll gladly allow the boys to make as many rap records as they so desire.
The album is out November 27th (Black Friday, y’all).
