Jack White‘s color palate is usually red, black, and white. But really it should be red blue and, yellow, as the man of a thousand bands (plus a record label and studio and God knows what else) is seemingly the Superman of modern rock. His next massive undertaking? To produce 72-year-old Wanda “Queen of Rockabilly” Jackson‘s next album.
This will mark White’s second collaboration with a high-profile dame of popular music, coming five years after he had a huge hand in the Loretta Lynn revival with 2004’s Van Lear Rose. In an interview with NewsOK (via TwentyFourBit), Jackson said she and White would be stretching the Queen’s musical chops and pushing the woman who first debuted back in 1958 to new places sonically.
“They had a super album, but he didn’t have her do anything different, you know,” said Jackson of the White/Lynn collaboration. “She just did her little Loretta Lynn songs. But he told me he’s gonna stretch me some, so we’ll see. We’ll talk later.”
Jackson was headed to the studio with White just last Friday. The duo plan to release a digital single before starting the LP. Jackson is known for being one of the first prominent females in rockabilly and is heralded for hits from the ’70s, including “A Woman Lives for Love” and “Fancy Satin Pillows”. She was voted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as an Early Influence in April of 2009.
