A few more details on that new She & Him album

Let’s be honest. Last week’s news of a new She & Him album came as a complete and utter surprise. A complete and utter unbelievably awesome surprise that is, one which quickly made us forget all that guilt associated with having just eaten three pounds of turkey! But even so, last week’s news featured few actual details. That’s where Paste Magazine now comes in.

The music mag recently sat down with M. Ward and Zooey Deschanel for an interview concerning the duo’s forthcoming collaboration and got a few choice quotes. Specifically this one about the album’s sound:

“I think that the dark shades that were on the last record are maybe a little bit darker on the new record, and the brighter shades on the last record are a little bit brighter on the new record,” Ward tells Paste. “I think that people are going to hear more contrasts, which is always something that I shoot for in the studio.”

And this one, relating to how the duo attempted to re-create a similar recording atmosphere of what was presented for Volume One. Emphasis on the word “attempted.”

“I think we approached the second record organically, the same as we did for the first record,” Deschanel tells Paste. “But the songs are different so the record is different. We had a bit more time and resources so we were able to work a little deeper.”

As for other details, She & Him went on to note that the yet-to-be-titled affair was recorded in Portland and Los Angeles over the past year-and-a-half, and will feature all-new original material penned by Deschanel and produced by Ward. Oh, and Mr. Deschanel, Death Cab for Cutie’s Ben Gibbard, WILL not be making a guest appearance. Sigh.

Just as there is no title, there is also no release date currently set, but expect it sometime in the spring of 2010. Now, please resume your mind-numbing anticipation.
