Despite massive critical acclaim, the Flight of the Conchords have decided to end their eponymous HBO T.V. series after just two seasons. The New Zealand duo of Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement, along with the show’s executive producer, James Bobie, broke the news in a statement posted on the band’s website yesterday (Dec. 10th):
“We’ve noticed the less we say about the future of the show, the more people want to talk about it, so in an effort to reverse this trend we are today announcing that we won’t be returning for a third season,” they wrote. “We’re very proud of the two seasons we made, and we like the way the show ended.”
As noted in the statement, speculation regarding the show’s uncertain future had been picking up steam over the last few months. There is no word as to what the determining factor for the duo’s decision, or what the future may hold. Most recently, the Conchords released their second studio album, I Told You I Was Freaky, in October.
