In My Morning Jacket’s world, a “big hiatus” is apparently not that big at all. Just six months after drummer Patrick Hallahan revealed that the band had “taken a big hiatus,” his colleague, frontman Jim James, has revealed to BBC 6 Music (via Stereogum) that MMJ is currently working on its sixth studio album.
In the recent interview, James confirmed that the Kentucky-based rock band has begun the earlier stages of recording new material, which will serve as the followup to 2008’s Evil Urges.
“We’re working on stuff but we’re just trying to keep it real stress free, real low key. I’d say we’re knocking around three or four songs but they’re still pretty rough,” he explained.
However, James did go on to note that the recording will likely be a fairly slow process and no timetable on the release has been set. But rest assured, it’s coming.
Also worth noting is the other piece of major info that came from James’ interview: Monsters of Folk will record a followup to their recently released self-titled debut. Plans for that are also only in the early stages.
Talk about killing two birds with one stone…
