Just because he doesn’t have enough on his plate already, the Smashing Pumpkins’ Billy Corgan has followed in the footsteps of Jack White, Amy Winehouse, Grizzly Bear’s Chris Taylor, and Lily Allen and has started his own record label.
For the endeavor, Corgan has teamed up with Kerry Brown, who is best known as the former drummer for the band Catherine and ex-husband of ex-Pumpkins bassist D’arcy Wretzky. There is no name for the label yet, as Brown explained on his blog, “We need to make sure that we have the name rights before we can announce it,” but the duo is “very excited to be collaborating with amazing artists that have made a huge impact on the underground music world.”
So who will be part of Corgan’s crew? Well, a bunch of Los Angeles acts, including punk band The Germs and psychedelic rockers Strawberry Alarm Clock, Ya Ho Wa 13, Fancy Space People, and The Electric Prunes. Oh ya, and Corgan’s old side-project Starchildren is also said to be involved.
Brown also provided an update on the Pumpkins’ recordings for the long-running project, Teargarden By Kaleidyscope, noting, “We have five songs mixed and another song is tracked and ready to be mixed. Song number two should be ready for download within the next two weeks..”
