In promotion of their junior release, Romance is Boring, the seven-piece pop/rock troupe Los Campesinos! have unveiled a dark and terribly twisted music video for the album’s first single and title track, “Romance Is Boring”. And they’ve made their new album available for a full stream via MySpace! Set for a stateside release on January 26th and a UK release on February 1th, Romance Is Boring is typical Los Campesinos!; packed with bouncy, catchy pop melodies wrapped in clever metaphors, saucy innuendos and spliced with depressing life realizations that force you to shout alongside them. That being said, the manic video for “Romance Is Boring” doesn’t come as a surprise at all.
Documenting the life of an abused housewife and her violent alcoholic husband, “Romance is Boring” shows in many ways the problem behind the “idea” of love. From stereotypical interpretations of love, beauty and happiness to realistic imagery of broken homes, traumatized children and spousal abuse, “Romance is Boring” has it all. What’s shocking however, is the video’s unexpected ending, which we think could have used a subtle blood-spatter effect to its advantage. We’re not about spoilers here folks so you’re just going to have to find out the details of its conclusion yourself. However, we will say this: in this tale only the strong prevail.
