Given society’s desire to not be surprised (ever), it’s almost a given that The Who would come out and just let us know what’s going to be played at its halftime show for Super Bowl XLIV. It’s unfortunate, but really, does it matter if we don’t know which of the three CSI themes will be played first?
In an interview with Billboard, guitarist and songwriter Pete Townshend leaked the goodies:
“We’re kinda doing a mashup of stuff,” the guitarist tells Billboard. “A bit of ‘Baba O’Riley,’ a bit of ‘Pinball Wizard,’ a bit of the close of ‘Tommy,’ a bit of ‘Who Are You,’ and a bit of ‘Won’t Get Fooled Again.’ It works — it’s quite a saga. A lot of the stuff that we do has that kind of celebratory vibe about it — we’ve always tried to make music that allows the audience to go a bit wild if they want to. Hopefully it will hit the spot.”
Hit the spot? Certainly… but only if there’s a cold Miller in one hand and a Frito-Lay-endorsed dipped chip in the other. Who’s with me? C’mon, brah!
Speaking of the game, who else is peeved about Minnesota? Please, do tell. After all, we have a couple of weeks to bitch and complain, that is until February 7th, when the Indianapolis Colts and the New Orleans Saints duke it out at Sun Life Stadium in Miami.
Hopefully both teams can carry an “Emminence Front”, or a quarterback that “Can See For Miles”, or a running back that handles the ball like a “Pinball Wizard”. Yeah, this is too much fun, but we’ll stop there.
