With Ryan Adams working feverishly to take over the world, it’s left The Cardinals without a truly dedicated frontperson. That was until songbird Gin Wigmore took the band in and gave them music to make. And now we’re seeing the results of that musical marriage as the legendary band and Wigmore are almost ready to unveil Wigmore’s debut LP, Holy Smoke. With the album set for a March release, Wigmore is going to take that album out on a small U.S tour.
A few years back, then 16-year-old Wigmore won the U.S.-based International Songwriting Contest. Then, at the age of 19, she released her first EP, Extended Play, in her native New Zealand before signing to Universal Motown Records in August 2008. Wigmore will play just a handful of U.S. shows, including a soon-to-be announced jaunt at SXSW in mid-March. Citizen Cope will open for each of the non-SXSW gigs.
The first single off the album, a gospel-tinged rocker entitled “Too Late For Lovers”, can be streamed here. Holy Smoke is out March 16th via Universal Motown Records.
