Rumors heat up as Bonnaroo lineup announcement approaches…

Next Tuesday really can’t come soon enough. After all, on that day (February 9th), last decade’s best music festival will look to kick off this decade with a bang by unveiling its 2010 bill. And based on the rumors, this year’s edition of the Bonnaroo Music Festival looks as incredibly insane as ever.

This week, we learned news of The Flaming Lips’ late night headlining appearance, where they’ll be playing their own set before covering Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon. LiveDaily, a website owned by, also reported that Paul Simon is confirmed to appear at this year’s performance, while another famous Paul — Macca? — is also rumored. Our friends at Stereogum then came out and posted on rumors of Jay-Z, Dave Mathews Band, Stevie Wonder, and Kings of Leon.

Our own independent sources agree with most of the above, as Jay-Z, Dave Matthews Band, and Kings of Leon are considered “locks.” The legendary Stevie Wonder is also expected to make an appearance on the farm, as is Neil Young. As it stands now, the rest of the rumored “heavyweights” remain just rumors, and we should note nothing has been officially confirmed by the festival’s promoters.

That said, as announced earlier this week, Bonnaroo will make its 2010 lineup announcement this coming Tuesday. However, unlike previous announcements, the festival will not be unveiled all at once, but rather throughout the day, with the goal being to “generate conversations about the lineup a few acts at a time.”

Basically, the bands confirmed to participate in Bonnaroo 2010 will be breaking the news themselves via various social media outlets and The full lineup will then be announced Tuesday night. In other words, get ready for a loooong Tuesday.

Check back this weekend for more info, specifically in regards to the part about “generating conversations.” Also, be sure to keep an eye on our Festival Outlook for any new lineup news and rumors.
