Vampire Weekend covers Rancid’s “Ruby Soho”

Full transparency here: Rancid is probably my fifth favorite group of all-time. Vampire Weekend is in the top ten as well, at least at the moment. So, all that makes the following news unbelievably, incredibly, and jaw-droppingly fantastic!

During a recent appearance with BBC Radio 1’s Zane Lowe, Vampire Weekend covered none other than Rancid’s 1995 hit “Ruby Soho”. Of course, Ezra Koenig and company have a history with punk music (note the collaborations with Fucked Up and the Joe Strummer shout outs on Contra). Plus, Rancid totally embodies a whole ska-pop-punk feel that makes the cover totally work for VW’s sound. But even still, talk about the most unexpected treat ever!

Ladies and gentlemen, via Pitchfork, the best cover of 2010!
