Caribou trots across the globe

If one indie act knows how to travel, it’s Canada’s psychedelic troupe, Caribou. Otherwise known as the pseudonym, or stage name, for Dan Snaith, Caribou will hit the globe in support of its forthcoming effort, Swim, due out April 20th via Merge Records. When we say “hitting the globe”, we mean it literally. Mr. Snaith will be clapping his hands and kicking his heels in just about every place over the next two months, save for Asia and the South Pacific, of course.

The great journey starts April 19th, just a day before the record release, in sunny ol’ Manchester. Soon after, Snaith makes his rounds throughout Europe before heading to the States, where he’ll kick off every American’s summer, including a stop up in the Pacific Northwest for Sasquatch. If you look closely, however, you’ll notice there’s no Chicago date listed. Could he be at Lollapalooza, or will Mr. Snaith be making another Pitchfork appearance? We’ll pencil him in for the latter.

As for Swim, fans should be happy to know that the band “has made a massive leap forwards, upwards and sideways.” In fact, this transition will translate to their live performances, as well. As the band’s press release notes, “while it will still be four musicians on stage, the dynamic interplay between visuals, electronics and the live sound is totally pliable.” That should be nice.

While we’re still a good month away from the new record, you can download the first single, “Odessa”, here. You’ll just need to fork over your e-mail address, but it’s not like they’re asking for your arm or leg.

Do it.
