Punk rock never looked so good. Set for release next month — April 9th to be exact — The Runaways finds sexy starlets Kristen Stewart, Dakota Fanning, and Scout Taylor-Compton portraying Joan Jett, Lita Ford, and Cherie Curie, respectively, as the punk-queen darlings better known as the ’70s group, The Runaways. Now you get the title, right?

Based on Currie’s book, Neon Angel, The Runaways takes place from 1975-1977, and follows one of the nation’s most pioneering acts as they rose to fame and stardom. But glamor comes with consequences, and like any story, the film focuses on the conflict the teenage girls faced — everything from managers to labels, fans and fellow musicians. This is not your average bio-pic, however, and authenticity is key here.

Label us excited. Bio-pics can really work (e.g. Walk the Line, Control), really fail (e.g. Ray), and really become a work of fiction (e.g. The Doors). But we’re betting The Runaways will stand up to the likes of Control, and who doesn’t love a good send back to the best decade ever: the 1970’s.

To celebrate the film, Consequence of Sound is running a couple of giveaways. The first is an ultimate prize pack, which will feature:

  • 1 The Runaways t-shirt
  • 1 copy of Neon Angel (Cheri Curri’s story)
  • 1 Best of Joan Jett CD
  • 1 The Runaways CD soundtrack

To win, simply send us an email with your name and address. Submissions end March 23rd.

The next prize, however, are two chances to tickets to see the movie. These screenings will take place in Chicago and New York and we’ll be announcing them randomly via Twitter over the next few weeks. So, keep your eyes peeled for a tweet that will contain directions on how to win. All of this is free, by the way.

That punk rock enough for ya?
