Delta Spirit, Deer Tick, and Dawes members form new super group

The latest and greatest indie super group comes in the form of a new trio. They’re called MG&V, which stands for McCauley, Goldsmith, and Vasquez aka Deertick frontman John McCauley, Dawes frontman Taylor Goldsmith, and Delta Spirit frontman Matt Vasquez, and the story of their formation goes something like this (via BrooklynVegan):

Notoriously adverse to sitting still, John McCauley felt the urge to write and record during some of Deer Tick’s recent downtime. Deer Tick chose Dawes to support a leg of their summer 2009 tour, during which McCauley and Goldsmith developed an affinity for each other’s songwriting. McCauley decided that Nashville would be the perfect location to write some new songs, and invited Goldsmith to join him. As the project began to take shape, McCauley and Goldsmith decided Matt Vasquez was the man to complete their vision for the project. A few days after tape started rolling, Vasquez arrived in Nashville-never having met McCauley. The three songwriters immediately bonded and proceeded to make a timeless masterpiece. Dawes drummer Griffin Goldsmith also joined the group to contribute percussion.

On March 19th, the band will makes its debut at Coda Agency SXSW Showcase in Austin, TX.  Details regarding said timeless masterpiece, aka the debut album, are still forthcoming. Of course, the members are also still very much involved in their main outfits, with Deer Tick currently gearing up for the July 8th release of The Black Dirt Sessions, while Delta Spirit is busy completing its sophomore full-length. All three bands will also perform at this year’s South by Southwest.
