Meet Gift Horse. Founded a mere two years ago, the grungy and gritty Athens, Georgia based quartet of Hunter Morris (vocals/keyboards), Mike Stokes (guitar/vocals), Vaughan Lamb (bass), and Brandon Scarboro (drums) has quickly become one of the city’s best kept secrets thanks to an acclaimed live show. Now, come May 4th, the band will look to make it nationally, as it’ll use the day to release its debut full-length, Mountain of Youth. The self-release affair (quick! someone sign ’em!) was produced by Hank Sullivant (Kuroma, The Whigs, MGMT), mixed by Nate Nelson (Nate Nelson and Cortright, Maria Taylor), and mastered by Joel Hatstet.
In support of the release, Gift Horse will soon embark on its first-ever full national tour. Currently, the band plans to hit up most of Texas prior to a series of appearances at this year’s South by Southwest. More dates are expected to be announced in the weeks ahead, so keep an eye out. Seriously.
We also have a stream of the album’s first single, “Missionaries”, which you can check out below.
