Josiah Wolf of WHY? has a solo album and tour

If you didn’t know, 2009 was a busy year for WHY?. (Note the the release of Eskimo Snow and the extensive gas bill). And, as it turns out, things are slowing down any time soon for co-founder Josiah Wolf.  WHY? drummer and brother of lead singer Yoni, Josiah released his debut solo album, Jet Lag, last Tuesday, March 2nd, on Anticon Records.

Josiah does far more than the drumming on his solo debut. The 12-track effort is rich with worldly instrumentation including guitar, vibes, kalimba, Hammond organ, bells and bass to name a few of his tools. The result is as kaleidoscopic as any WHY? album, but stands out in the family portrait with a more serious tone. The brothers’ contrasting vocal styles is what’s immediately noticeable. Compared to the harmonious, slightly sarcastic tone of Yoni’s vocals with WHY?, Josiah’s voice graces Jet Lag in a more comforting manner, meaning the tones of his voice are more immediately comforting to the ear. It’s Yoni’s lyrics with WHY? that make you feel all warm and fuzzy.  Jet Lag is rich with playful folk tunes while the WHY? albums we love are just straight up playful.

Josiah Wolf will be opening for WHY? on number of upcoming tour dates, plus he will be headlining a few shows of his own. (Click on the ticket link on the side bar for more info). Check out all the dates below. Also, be sure to also check out “Master Cleanse (California)” off of Jet Lag.
