As both a musician and a record producer, New Yorks Martin Bisi has all the right hook-ups in the industry. Since the 80s, Bisi has managed his own studio alongside Brian Eno, releasing albums by Sonic Youth, The Dresden Dolls, White Zombie, Helmet, and Herbie Hancock among others, while also maintaining a solid and impressive solo career. Now, the Brooklynite is kicking off 2010 with his all new followup EP to 2009s Sirens Of The Apocalypse entitled Son Of A Gun. And, not surprisingly, he has tapped several of his high profile friends to help out.
The exciting list of guests on the five-track effort includes Brian Vilione (The Dresden Dolls), bassist Bill Laswell, and drummer Bob DAmico (Fiery Furnaces). Mixing together elements of experimental/psychedelic rock, indie rock, and rockabilly, Son Of A Gun should serve as a good introduction to Bisis multi-genre sounds and styles. While the EP doesnt carry much consistency in sound, each track promises to be a unique and engaging experience from start to finish. Take particular note if you’re fans of The Pixies, Primus, and The Replacements.
As a bonus, Bisi has also released an overwhelmingly strange music video for the peppy pop song Drink Your Wine, featuring DAmico on drums. From painted faces to creepy mannequins, Drink Your Wine features an eclectic assortment of people and props shown through a trippy kaleidoscope lens. Its wacky, its fun, and its got hula hoop-ing! What more can we ask for? Well, for starters, a Spring tour! Looks like Bisis got that covered also, as hell be performing a brief stint in the U.S. with Viglione on drums.
