Perhaps taking a page from The Magnetic Fields’ Stephin Merritt, Portishead’s Adrian Utley and Goldfrapp’s Will Gregory are the latest musicians now lending their talents to a scoring a silent film.
Per Clash Music, the duo has teamed up to soundtrack the classic 1928 French film on The Passion Of Joan Of Arc. On May 7th, the film will be shown at a special screening at Colston Hall in Bristol, England, where Charles Hazlewood will conduct an ensemble of six electric guitars, members of the Monteverdi Choir, percussion, horns and keyboards that will be given the of performing the music from Utley and Gregory.
This will not mark the first time The Passion Of Joan Of Arc has been accompanied by a high-profile musical soundtrack. Back in the day, aka 1999, Cat Power provided musical accompaniment at several screenings of the film in the U.S. We can only hope we’re so fortunate that Utley and Gregory’s creation will hit stateside.
For a taste of the movie itself, we have provided a clip below.
