Matador celebrates 21st birthday with Pavement-featuring festival

This year marks the 21st birthday of the incredible independent label Matador Records. You may know it as the home of such acts as Pavement, The New Pornographers, Sonic Youth, Yo La Tengo, Fucked Up, Belle and Sebastian, Girls, and Mogwai.

Now, what better way to celebrate a 21st birthday than by heading to Las Vegas. You’re legal after all. Well, Matador Records apparently thought the same, as the label will be throwing a giant birthday/three-day music festival in Sin City later this year.

Now, what better way to throw a music festival than by having Pavement play. They’re totally kick ass after all. Well, Matador Records apparently thought the same, as the label has tapped the recently reunited indie outfit to head the festivities.

Though an official announcement is still forthcoming, Las Vegas Weekly reports that Matador will indeed celebrate its 21st birthday by bringing a three-day, Pavement-headlining festival to Las Vegas’ Pearl at the Palms between October 1st and 3rd.

Loads of other Matador acts are also expected to appear on the bill. So you can start guessing, we included a list of current Matador acts as well as alumni below. One probable is Sonic Youth, which has a date with Pavement in Los Angeles just days before the festival kicks off.

We’ll of course update you when more information becomes available.
