When you hear of a band called Mountain Man, you would expect them to be, well, men. Not the case here. They are actually mountains. Talking mountains. Weird, huh?
Mountain Man, actually, are three women from Vermont who met at Bennington College through mutual attractions to music and mutual experiences with heartbreak. A quick listen to their initial offering reveals both intimate moments and haunting melodies, like they were beside you in the room, only one hundred years removed. Or basically, the sound like the ghosts of Vivian Girls past.
The trio has two members still in school, but will launch their first album and tour nonetheless with Made In The Harbor, out July 20th on Partisan/Bella Union. They also have some scattered gigs booked, one of which is opening for The Middle East in NYC, another is a little known festival called Glastonbury. Check out their tour dates and first offering below. And remember, I was kidding about the talking mountains. It should be obvious, but I didn’t want someone to show up and be disappointed when they saw the girls.
