The Fratellis call it quits

“From the very first day we got together, The Fratellis never had a plan as such, we knew we were good, we knew we had a chance to make it.. Turns out we were right, everything fell into place and we’ve spent the last five or so years touring the world sharing this great music with you all. At this particular point in time though we’ve found ourselves making music still but just not together. This is just the way it goes I suppose sometimes.”

— Fratellis bassist Barry Fratelli reveals (via thefratellis.com) that the U.K. outfit has all but broken up. Fellow members Jon and Mince Fratelli posted similar messages, noting that there are “no plans to work together right now.”

In their five year existence, The Fratellis released two full-length albums, 2006’s Costello Music and 2008’s Here We Stand. In 2007 edition of the BRIT Awards, they were crowned “Best British Breakthrough Act.”

Frontman Jon Fratelli, aka Jon Lawler, recently started Codeine Velvet Club with Lou Hickey. They plan to tour this summer in support of their recently released self-titled debut.
