The Need and Bangs reunite for cancer benefit

While the circumstances regarding their return are far from ideal, former Kill Rock Stars outfits Bangs and The Need will both be reuniting this summer — and at the same gig, for that matter. The two outfits will return for a one-off benefit show on July 23rd at Berbati’s Pan in Portland, OR. The show will be used to benefit Natalie Cox, a former Kill Rock Stars employee diagnosed with a rare and particularly aggressive form of cancer called angiosarcoma in July 2009.

Both Bangs and The Need were fixtures in the Pacific Northwest music scene in the late 1990s/early 2000s. The former, a punk outfit, released three full-length LPs during its eight year existence. The latter, a queercore band which featured indie rock notables Rachel Carnsles (Kicking Giant, The King Cobra) and Radio Sloan (The Chelsea, Ce Be Barns Band), dropped four studio albums and a slew of 7″‘s before disbanding in the early 2000s.

Bangs and The Need will be joined on the July 23rd bill by C Average and Thrones. Tickets are available now — for just $15! — via Ticketweb.com. And remember, it’s for a good cause.
