Watch: The Hold Steady is “Barely Breathing”

New York Magazine has yet to unveil another tune off The Hold Steady‘s forthcoming effort, Heaven is Whenever, but we’re still satiated with the three already released. But who’s to ignore a YouTube leak, right? Just last week, the Minneapolis-Brooklyn-Ybor City rock band hit the road, and naturally for any band who’s supporting a new effort, they played a string of new songs.

The first live gem comes from their tour opening show at Ardsley, NY and it’s titled, “Barely Breathing”. No, it’s not a cover of Duncan Shiek. It’s a bouncy number that sees Craig Finn rattling off like a former ska frontman above some jazzy melodies. Like everything this band patents, it’s fun, it sizzles, and above all, it rocks hard. Now, the quality isn’t great here, but if you’re like us (die-hard fans, that is), you won’t pass it off.

Sigh, May 4th, where art thou?
