After two previous years of selling out and reaching maximum capacity (roughly 75,000 music lovers), Lollapalooza is trying acquire a little more breathing room for everyone. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, organizers for this year’s festival have expanded the grounds from 80 acres to 115 acres, achieving a new capacity of 95,000 attendees per day, which is simply mind-boggling.
The expansion will only effect the western boarder, which will now travel across the lanes of Columbus Drive and further into Grant Park. Borders to the North (Monroe Dr.), South, (Roosevelt Dr,), and East (Lakeshore Dr.) will remain the same, however. For those who are geographically challenged like myself, check out this handy Google map.
In other Lollapalooza news, many band website crawlers/geeks at the Lolla message boards have done some serious grunt work and put together a speculative schedule that claims to only “talk in FACTS!” Whether true or not, it’s worth checking out to get some sense of the the first weekend in August’s fun.
