Glitch-master Markuss Popp has been dormant for nearly a decade, but plans several dozen new Oval tracks in the upcoming months. Confusingly titled Oh and O, Popp’s new releases signify a departure from his prior deconstructivist laptop re-mixes to a realm of live-instrumentation and dynamically driven songs.
Encompassing 85 total tracks, Oh will be released June 15th via Thrill Jockey Records, with O tentatively scheduled for a September date. Exploring new ground sonically, Popp devolved his recording equipment: replacing high-end Macs with a stock 5-year old PC, using only commercially available software, and choosing to play all virtual instruments by hand. Below, explore his creation “ah!”.
O‘s LP edition will include the music from the massive 70-track CD spread out over the double LP’s first three sides, with the 4th containing six vinyl-only bonus tracks . To keep the records safe, a download of all of the music will also be included. Complete tracklistings follow.
