Sunglasses trip out on debut EP, explore NYC

Who needs songs with cover art like that? Thankfully, Sunglasses does.

The Brooklyn based duo is set to release its debut EP on June 15th (via Lefse Records), and if the previously revealed EP track “Referee” is any indication of what awaits inside that collage of sprinkles and Ray-Ban clad canines, then go ahead and count us in. The EP’s fourth track is a three-minute joyride riddled with enough dance-y low end to shake our asses for us.

However, those with inclinations to get down on their own power can catch the pair at a few dates in Brooklyn and New York City. They’ll support Black Moth Super Rainbow’s mastermind, Tobacco, on June 3rd, then play a DJ set at Home Sweet Home the very next day.

Sunglasses is Samuel Cooper and Brady Keehn (who perform as 8000 bam bam and Baby Seal, respectively).  They first worked together when Keehn supervised sound design on Cooper’s senior thesis film at Savannah College of Art and Design. They ended up playing music together in hopes on blending Cooper’s love of pop with Keehn’s fascination with bass and multilayered beats. Their efforts have landed them a roster spot at Lefse and the hype that goes along with being a labelmate to Neon Indian.

You can decide if they’re worthy on the band’s extra mini-tour and peep their film school chops on this self-directed clip for the EP’s first track, “Whiplash”.
