As previously reported, The Flaming Lips have been forced to cancel their upcoming appearance at the inaugural Hangout Music Festival due to the hospitalization of guitarist Steven Drozd. The Golf Shores, Alabama based festival promised fans a suitable replacement and they made good on their word, having tapped none other than Jimmy Fallon’s personal house band, The Roots, to serve as the Lips’ replacement. They’ll be playing on day two of the festival, aka Saturday, May 15th.
Of course, finding a last minute replacement isn’t the only thing organizers of the festival are having to deal with. It is still unknown what effects the recent oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico will have on Alabama’s Gulf Shores, or the Hangout Festival for that matter, as will take place directly on the beach.
“The Hangout Music Fest is moving forward as planned for a great weekend of music and white sandy beaches. Like everyone on the Gulf Coast, we are monitoring the clean-up of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. We are relying on updates from the official response team, made up of the US Coast Guard, NOAA, Homeland Security, Dept of the Interior, BP and Transocean for our information. If there is any change to this situation, we will offer updates immediately through the website, as well as our Facebook and Twitter pages,” a statement on the festival’s website reads.
We’ll of course update you as any additional information becomes available. However, because everything still remains on, we’ll now use this opportunity to remind you that we are currently giving away tickets to the Hangout Festival. Just click here to get in on the fun.
