Watch: Mumford & Sons pounds it out on Fallon

Mumford & Sons, whose blend of American bluegrass and U.K. traditional folk coupled with a penchant for iambic drunken sing-a-longs, earned spots on several late night shows this year. But not until you reach Fallon do you get the ultimate 140 character test: ?uestlove’s twitter review. Ok, not really. But look what ?uest said about the boys’ performance:

“damn London’s Mumford & Sons just outdid every weird brooklyn band setup ive ever seen w/ the drums & banjo alone”#highlyimpressive

Sure, there might be some hyperbole in there. I mean, Yeasayer isn’t just a bunch of Williamsburg assholes with some blip bleep machines. But watching Mumford & Sons create such a massive, energetic, fist-pumping sound out of acoustic instruments is certainly refreshing. Seeing M&S live is like watching a lion hunt: they are acutely focused, careful with every step, and when the ball drops, they explode with fury and ravenous hunger. “Cave”, their second single off of their stellar debut Sigh No More showcases the seeds and fruits of what this band can do. Check it out below.
