Before Austin City Limits was a festival, it was a PBS TV show that featured small-room sets by artists both legendary and on-the-rise. The show airs its 36th season this fall, with four new tapings to coincide with the October fest dates: Monsters of Folk, Sonic Youth, Band of Horses, and The National. All four are first-timers, and the shows are open to the public, so if youre in the area, be there. Youre not likely to see any of these bands in a more intimate setting, and you might get your face on TV to boot.
This year’s lineup is a bit folksier than last year’s, which rocked hard with the likes of Pearl Jam and Them Crooked Vultures. The 2010 selection is as diverse as ever though, from reggae legend Jimmy Cliff to Austin locals Spoon. Check out the full taping schedule below.
Austin City Limits boasts a stunning history of performers. I counted fifty different performers on the lineup history Wikipedia page before I got tired, and I hadnt even made it through the Bs. How many TV shows can list the Allman Brothers Band, Arcade Fire, Joan Baez, and Gnarls Barkley on their resumes?
Tickets for each show go on sale the week before each taping. AustinCityLimits.org will post the info on ticket purchases and giveaways. Follow @acltv to ensure you dont miss out.
