I can’t believe I’m putting Katy Perry and Passion Pit together in the same sentence, but they do both share a similar quality — the ability to craft incredibly catchy pop hooks. So perhaps it’s only appropriate that the indie all-stars recently decide to put their own spin on Perry’s newly crowned #1 single “California Gurls”. Compliments of some kind of awesome, the end result is an electro-heavy remix that adds a dance floor appeal to Perry’s “Once you party with us / You’ll be falling in love” lyrics. And while it might not be as hit-friendly as Perry’s original cut, one could certainly argue the Passion Pit remix gels better with the drug fueled, Lindsay Lohan-featuring, 3AM LA club scene.
“California Gurls” comes from Perry’s forthcoming second album Teenage Dream, due for release on August 24th via Capitol.
