Whether as N.E.R.D., The Neptunes, or Pharell and the other guy, Pharell Williams and Chad Hugo are usually the ones doing the remixing and the just plain mixing. But with their new record due out on September 7th, titled Nothing, N.E.R.D. (including third nerd Shay Haley) better get used to hearing themselves playing over music they didn’t necessarily intend. The first round, for the Nelly Furtado featuring track “Hot-N-Fun”, boasts not only raver faves Boyz Noise and Crookers, but also a pair of indie darlings, as both Yeasayer and Hot Chip put their own spin on the single. Perhaps they were inspired by Passion Pit’s reworking of Katy Perry?

N.E.R.D. already have festivals scheduled across Europe, but just a couple in America. And while Summerfest promises much in size, HARD LA offers a smaller affair and M.I.A. as the headliner. Either way, both will be well worth checking out.
