Check Out: Passion Pit cover Smashing Pumpkins' "Tonight, Tonight"

The boys of Passion Pit have quite the eclectic pallet these days. One second they’re remixing Katy Perry, the next they’re covering Smashing Pumpkins. As part of the latest edition of Levi’s Pioneer Sessions, aka as the blue jeans-friendly online series that has already brought us covers from the likes of She & Him, The Shins, and Dirty Projectors, the Boston based indie rockers can be found offering their take on Billy Corgan’s 1995 single “Tonight, Tonight”.

It’s not surprising to hear Passion Pit’s cover feature all the decor of the band’s now trademark sound. Gone are Corgan’s nasally vocals and the song’s original orchestral elements, replaced by frontman Michael Angelakos’ high pitched falsettos and dizzying keyboards and dance beats. You wouldn’t think such a thing would work, but it does.

Stream the track below and download it for free here. There’s also a short “making of” video attached below the stream.
