Do you ever feel excluded when you listen to world music? Apparently, the United States, Canada, England, much of Scandinavia, and a good portion of the other western nations aren’t part of the world. So, I’m pushing for calling it non-western music. A much more apt description, if I do say so. Or maybe it’s just dropping hundreds of distinct cultures and their arts under one umbrella term. I am probably asking too much, though.
Fool’s Gold would probably like this, with their distinct combination of popular American music and a sampling of sounds associated with Africa. But, however journalists and record stores choose to classify their music, there is no denying that Fool’s Gold is doing something right, with an ever-increasing profile and a slew of summer tour dates, including stops at the hometown Hollywood Bowl and the Central Park Summerstage. They will round out their schedule with dates in the UK, European mainland, and Canada, not to mention some shows here in the U.S.
Fool’s Gold has also gained the attention of other prominent musicians, with remixes turning up that put a further spin on their trademark sound. Check out what Memory Tapes came up with, and see Fool’s Gold on tour this summer.
