The newly configured Interpol promised more tour dates after Bono’s back injury forced them to scrap all but four scheduled US performances. It turns out they weren’t lying.
Today, the band mapped out plans for an extensive North American tour, their first scheduled road trip in over two years. The endeavor is set to begin a week from tomorrow, July 23rd, at the Pearl Street Ballroom in Northampton, MA. From there, the band will travel up and down the east coast before hitting various midwest locations. Incredibly, they’ll also play two dates in Florida — who knew such a thing was possible? — on August 18th and 19th in Lake Buena Vista and Miami Beach, respectively. No word yet on west coast dates, but with a late October appearance scheduled for the New Orleans-based Voodoo Experience, we figure more dates might be scheduled for around then.
Update: Matador confirms more US dates will be coming in the Autumn.
As for what you’ll be seeing? Last night, Interpol offered a further taste of what’s to come at Rochester, New York’s 1,300-person capacity Water Street Music Hall. Spin reports the band played a 15 song set, 100 minute performance and, in addition the previously revealed “Light”, they debuted two other new numbers, titled “Success” and “Summer Well”. So far, no audible videos from the performance have popped up, but we’ll add them if and when they do.
Tickets for the dates will go on sale starting Friday, June 25th via Ticketmaster.com. For a list of on-sale dates, click here.
The trek of course follows quite a bit of other news on the Interpol front. Bassist Carlos D left the band and has since been replaced by Dave Pajo, plus the Secret Machines’ Brandon Curtis has been added as a member of the touring lineup. What’s more, the band will be touring behind its forthcoming, self-titled fourth LP, which is due for release release in September via its new label Matador Records. And if all that weren’t enough, Interpol has also just dropped a music video for “Lights”. You can download it for free by clicking here and/or stream below.
