If you have yet to hear “Younger Us”, the latest Japandroids release in their singles series, do me a favor and stop reading this, scroll down and play. Sure, this is bro-rock. But it is bro-rock like Hemingway is bro-lit, simple and understated, but profound in a way that makes this writer envious. They capture the moment, the way The Hold Steady did a few years back, the way The Henry Clay People and Titus Andronicus are also doing. So don’t be afraid to let your bro show, there is enough wimpy rock (which also rules) to allow a few bands with some guts, some energy, and something to say.
Not convinced? Well, check out Japandroids in concert and see if they can convince you. If you’re free this weekend, I hear they will be in Tennessee; maybe stop by or something. They will then be hitting the Euro-festival circuit, and finally returning to play many Canadian shows to their countrymen. Also, a few American dates are lined up, with Bumbershoot confirmed and FYF Fest in LA rumored.
