Megaufaun readies release of mini-LP Heretofore

With the prospect of playing a billion shows this year, Megafaun probably didn’t need the extra stress of working on an album. But never one for conventional band constraints and scheduling, the North Carolina outfit found itself writing an album one January morning, completing the process in a week. What it was left with after a month of recording was Heretofore, an album that questioned the band’s down-home work effort and led to some of its more inspired and exciting work.

With such a brief gestational period, a lot of the band’s planning and intricacy was stripped to its very core. The 34-minute mini-LP attempts to capitalize on the energy of their rather intense and hectic touring schedule throughout 2009. On the other hand, if you think that Megafaun’s given up their rootsy, explorative songwriting M.O., think again; “Comprovisation for Connor Pass” clocks in at 13 minutes, offering the most hardened fan a song with a lot of room to grow in.

If the Creedence Clearwater Revival-esque jams and jangly pop that makes up this LP don’t completely fill you up, Megafaun also promised to record another LP by the year’s end. Oh, and we’re sure the band will do way more touring, too.

Heretofore is out September 14th via Home Tapes. Tickets for their current crop of dates are available at Ticketmaster.com.
