It may be a little played out by now for bands to do full albums live, but it’s nothing to complain about. Not when it means we get some new shows from influential San Jose stoner metal band band Sleep. The band, which split in 1997 and spawned offshoots OM, High On Fire, and Shrinebuilder before ultimately reuniting last year, will soon make its long overdue return stateside with Neurosis drummer Jason Roeder. If that weren’t exciting enough, the band will use the trek to dust off its 1992 sophomore effort Holy Mountain, as each scheduled date will include a performance of the album in its entirety.
The U.S. tour spans sea to shining sea at the beginning of September, commencing with an appearance at ATP New York on the 3rd. From there, Sleep will head to Philadelphia on the 7th, the first what will be six straight nights of performances, with stops in New York City, Chicago, Austin, Portland, and San Francisco all included. Of particular note is the band’s September 11th stop in Portland, where it will be playing at Musicfest NW.
