The Vaselines return with first album in two decades

It seems as if something’s in the air these days as loads of bands are returning from a “hiatus” or bad break-up in order to reclaim their legions of fans and musical dominance. For instance, Devo‘s got a new album out on June 15th and The Strokes recently played their first show in four years. Ah, the power of summer. With those good vibes in mind, get ready to add another name to the list of musical phoenixes as The Vaselines, those indie poppers from Scotland, prepare to return with their first album in 20 years, Sex With An X.

The band, despite copious love and plenty of hyping by Kurt Cobain, only released one full-length album, Dum-Dum, before splitting up in 1990. So, what better way to ensure the success of their second album then by bringing in Jamie Watson, the producer of their first effort. That team must have some magic because even with a few more years packed on, they were able to pound out the 12-track LP in just 13 days. The band, which features original members Eugene Kelly and Frances McKee along with Belle & Sebastian’s Stevie Jackson and Bobby Kildea on guitar and bass respectively, have been playing a steady gig of live shows since reforming in 2006. If you think they might be a little rusty, though,  enjoy an album preview entitled “I Hate The 80s” at the band’s official site.

Sex With An X is due out September 14th via Sub Pop Records. Check the band out on a 10-gig UK tour in support of the album beginning September 15th.
