With his main outfit still on an extended hiatus, TV on the Radio’s David Andrew Sitek will soon follow in the footsteps of bandmade Kyp Malone and unveil his very own solo album.

Under the moniker Maximum Balloon, Sitek will unveil his self-titled debut on August 24th via DGC/Interscope Records. And what a self-titled debut it is. Sitek called several big names artists he has previously produced to make guest appearances on the album, including the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s Karen O, Dragons of Zynth’s Aku, and Holly Miranda. Also lending their talents will be David Byrne, Theophilus London, and fellow TV on the Radio members Malone and Tunde Adebimpe, reports BrooklynVegan.

Speaking with BrooklynVegan, Sitek provided a bit of insight on the project, such as that the name Maximum Balloon was derived from “idea of when you were a kid and you would put messages in a balloon and just send them out there.” He also noted that his solo project isn’t really a solo project at all, but rather “it is more like a collaboration. I spare us all from me singing on every track.”

Sitek also added that TV on the Radio still has nothing on its upcoming calendar and that he has no idea when his Raaaaaaaandy’s mix tape, aka his recent collaboration with Aziz Ansari, will be released. “Who knows. When it’s good and ready. Aziz [Ansari] has been really wrapped up in the MTV movie awards and other filming and writing and I’ve had my hands full,” he explained.

Maximum Balloon will be regularly releasing a series of digital singles in the weeks leading up to the release of the album.
