While last week’s Stay in School benefit in Chicago technically marked his first live performance since the whole Taylor Swift debacle, it was during Jay-Z‘s headlining set at the UK based Isle of Wight Festival last night when Kanye West made his full-blown public return. Appearing during a performance of The Blueprint 3‘s “Run This Town”, the Chicago rapper appeared both fresh and energized and showed no signs of rust following what had been a six-month-plus self-imposed seclusion.
According to published reports, Jay-Z and the crowd then capped off Kanye’s surprise appearance by singing him “Happy Birthday”. West turned 33 last Monday.
Watch a clip of the performance below. As you may know, Jay-Z is due to perform at the Bonnaroo Music Festival in just a few hours. As you may also know, Bonnaroo and Kanye West don’t have the best history together. And while it’s unlikely the two relive yesterday’s surprise tonight, wouldn’t it be something if they did… Update: Yeah, it didn’t happen. So much for that theory.
