Watch: New MGMT video – "It's Working"

Now that the dust swirling around Congratualtions has finally settled down, MGMT are free to be themselves once again.  They’ve just released a new video for one of the album’s better tracks – “It’s Working” – and for the most part, it works.

The clip is directed by So Me, a French artiste who also creates designs for Ed Banger Records (home to another hip duo – Justice). Over the course of the video’s four-minutes, Ben Goldwasser and Andrew Van Wyngarden break out their Erector Set skills and construct a machine that turns the duo – and everything else that comes into contact with it – into living kaleidoscopes.

As the song progresses, the machine dispenses candy, ice cream, and joy in general. It even lands Goldwasser in bed with a beautiful lady. There’s no happy ending here, though. The joy machine they’ve created becomes too big for the boys to handle and eventually overwhelms them before completely devouring them in one fell swoop.

Maybe it’s an allusion to the hype and backlash MGMT have created for themselves over the past four years. Check out the video for yourself below, then decide whether or not you want to see the band on the road. The boys are on tour through the end of the year, and tickets for select dates are available via Ticketmaster.com
