Peter Gabriel has a history of delivering stellar renditions of other people’s music and his newly released cover of Tom Wait’s classic hymn “In The Neighborhood” is no different.
The legendary singer/songwriter performed the cover, which you can watch below, in benefit of The Voice Project. Described as a “song-driven movement inspired by the women of Uganda who are using their voices as vehicles for change in the war-ravaged region of Northern Uganda, Southern Sudan, and Eastern Congo, an area that has been marred by violence for the last 24 years,” The Voice Project is an attempt to support these women and the peace movement in the region.”
To help bring awareness of their efforts, The Voice Project has recruited a number of artists to play a game of musical tag. Gary Go kicked things off by covering Joseph Arthur’s “Chicago”, which was followed by Arthur playing Gabriel’s “Shock the Monkey”, reports Rolling Stone. Other acts to have contributed their talents thus far include Dawes, Steel Train, Bedouin Soundclash, Andrew Bird, and R.E.M.’s Mike Mills. Find the full collection of corresponding videos here.
